Pigs and Pearls

Recognize that not everyone shares your viewpoint. The things you hold dear may not be appreciated by others, so be cautious about whom you trust with what you value. Not everyone has the ability to appreciate things in the way they deserve.

“Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” - Matthew‬ ‭7:6‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Life’s Greatest Pursuit

Be Rich in Good Works What are your goals for the new year? Are you focused on obtaining more things or do you want to obtain more lasting wealth? I encourage you to consider a personal goal that is of more value than material wealth. Focus on obtaining the kind of wealth that will provide you with a firm foundation for your future. Wealth that no one can take away from you. Try to be rich in good deeds. Goodwill 1 Timothy 6:18, 19 suggests that performing good works is how people add to their spiritual treasury. Good acts create positive equity, a reserve that sustains them in the future. Through good acts, a person can grab hold of life. This is how they can make life more abundant. By performing good acts a person intentionally earns an asset referred to in accounting as goodwill. Goodwill is your established reputation. It's yours and no one or thing can arbitrarily destroy it. It does not succumb to market pressures. You alone decide when and where to use this reserve. Inv...

Part 3: Redefining my Relationship with God. - The Story of my Deconversion, Deprogramming, Reconversion and Awakening -

How  would you describe the relationship you have with God? Is God your benevolent father, a cosmic sovereign, or your eternal judge? Is God distant and unknowable or intimate and personal to you? If you are like me the question can not be answered in a simple sentence.   The relationship isn’t complicated but it is difficult to explain. Nevertheless I will try and do so in this part 3 of my blog series on my de-conversion, deprogramming, reconversion and awakening.      For the majority of my life I had a very particular view of how God, in the Christian context, relates to humanity.   What I mean by this is that I had a very particular notion of God’s personality and attributes. I personified God as a man who created everything and had a very particular way that he desired things to be done. He communicated his will to His creation through his prophets after sin put a wedge between God and humanity. The story goes that a wedge was created wh...

Introduction

Life is a mystery. How to live it well may be a even greater mystery. Over the centuries many have tried to understand life and its origins, but more importantly how life came to be and for what purpose? These questions have sparked a quest that has been pursued by consecutive generations, each with their own wise people, spiritual leaders and philosophers devoted to providing solutions. Mainly through observation, these people developed ideas about possible answers that they would in turn shared with others. The ideas were first shared through the spoken word and oral history then through the written word. Stories that proposed answers to satisfy their curiosity.      A story seems to be the perfect mechanism. Stories provide a way to share information so that it is easily remembered, which is important to how we learn. “People learn by making sense of the environment and of stimuli around them," (Hammond, et al. (2006). How People Learn : Introduc...
