You are Not Alone.

The Prophet Elijah succeeded at Mount Carmel, where God demonstrated His superiority over Baal. After that moment, Elijah may have overzealously ordered the death of all 450 of the prophets of Baal, which infuriated Queen Jezebel, who in turn vowed to take his life, so he went into hiding.

“And he was afraid, and got up and ran for his life...”

‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭3‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

“… and he asked for himself to die, and said, “Enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.””

‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭4‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

His fear may have been because the act of killing Baal’s prophets doesn’t appear directed by God, and he probably wasn't sure God would protect him. God sent a messenger to comfort, feed, and prepare him for a journey to see God.

“…but behold, there was an angel touching him, and he said to him, “Arise, eat!””

‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭5‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

“But the angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him, and said, “Arise, eat; because the journey is too long for you.””

‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭7‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

It took him 40 days and 40 nights to come to where God was. There, Elijah shared all of his worries and concerns.

“Then he came there to a cave and spent the night there; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” And he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of armies; for the sons of Israel have abandoned Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they have sought to take my life.””

‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

God made it clear to Elijah that his concerns were unwarranted.

“Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.””

‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭18‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Many times, our success will cause our adversaries to regroup and attempt to take us down. In those moments, it is human to process our fears and emotions but remember to bring them to God, the source of your success, and don’t be afraid because you are not alone.

The Character Development Cycle

Stages of Character Development A 6 stage cycle for character development is revealed when the parable of the sower is combined with other farming or planting metaphors and similes found in the Bible that are used to explain spiritual development. This blog post briefly summarizes the process by breaking down the combined metaphors and similes into 3 components: the vehicle in Figure 1 is the biological life cycle of a plant,  the tenor or topic in Figure 2 are corresponding Biblical symbols  and Figure 3 the practical application.   Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3 Stage 1: Soil Biological: Soil provides anchorage for plant roots and holds water and nutrients essential for plant growth. Soil condition is important to the growth of healthy plants, therefore cultivators make sure that the soil is suitable before sowing seeds. Biblical: Soil represents the heart. In the parable of the sower, found in Matthew 13, four types of soil conditions are described: roadside, thorny,...

Part 3: Redefining my Relationship with God. - The Story of my Deconversion, Deprogramming, Reconversion and Awakening -

How  would you describe the relationship you have with God? Is God your benevolent father, a cosmic sovereign, or your eternal judge? Is God distant and unknowable or intimate and personal to you? If you are like me the question can not be answered in a simple sentence.   The relationship isn’t complicated but it is difficult to explain. Nevertheless I will try and do so in this part 3 of my blog series on my de-conversion, deprogramming, reconversion and awakening.      For the majority of my life I had a very particular view of how God, in the Christian context, relates to humanity.   What I mean by this is that I had a very particular notion of God’s personality and attributes. I personified God as a man who created everything and had a very particular way that he desired things to be done. He communicated his will to His creation through his prophets after sin put a wedge between God and humanity. The story goes that a wedge was created wh...

Love Your Enemies

It doesn't make sense, and it shouldn't. There is no way to rationalize loving and praying for the best for those who are actively seeking your destruction, but faith isn’t logical, nor is godliness. As counterintuitive as it may be, pray blessings upon your enemies. Love on them unconditionally, expecting nothing in return from them or God. “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who are abusive to you.” “But love your enemies and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil people.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭ 27‬-‭28‬, 35‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬
